Who I Am

I am a lifelong learner, anatomy nerd, outdoor lover and passionate, vulnerable healthcare provider.

a little bit about me…

I love a good podcast, walks in the woods ground me, photography brings me deep joy, learning about fascia and anatomy lights me up, gardening and tending to our land fulfills me, following the lunar cycle has changed my life, and being a parent has been my most fun and challenging role. I am the happiest when I can ride my e-bike on a summer evening with music blasting in my air pods. I am a recovering perfectionist and worrier.

I have been part of the Upper Valley for over a decade and now live in Canaan with my husband, son and 2 dogs, with a second baby on the way!

I am a certified Professional Yoga Therapist (PYT) as well as a certified and NH licensed Athletic Trainer (AT), having started my practice in 2008. Everyday work and life experiences strengthen my ever growing toolbox, as I am doing this work of embodiment, healing and living a full, active life alongside of you.

How did I get here?…

Originally from Connecticut, I have loved being active since childhood; being outdoors, participating in sports and learning about anatomy were some of my first loves. The combination of all three introduced me to a career in athletic training. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Quinnipiac University in 2008 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine. I then went on to get my Master’s of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Kentucky, graduating Cum Laude in 2010.

My yoga practice started in 2007 when I took a class in college; I fell in love with the mental and physical release felt from the slower pace and inward focus of the practice. On and off for the next five years I practiced from a variety of yoga lineages, both in person and at home with online classes. Then after my own knee injury in 2012, I discovered Ginger Garner and the PYT Institute. This injury had a big physical impact, but also took a psychological and emotional toll that I was not ready for… The practice of yoga was pivotal in my healing journey, leading to the start of my PYT certification and ultimately leaving the traditional setting of athletic training. I moved from working with teams and athletes in the collegiate setting to working with a broad array of young and old, current and ex-athletes, and those who just wanted to feel and move better. I began teaching yoga and since then, I have incorporated yoga and a more holistic approach with all those I work with. Concepts of The Pentagon of Wellness and the Biopsychosocial Model have been most influential in my education and teaching journey.

Fast forward five years, after working in the fitness setting, teaching yoga and working with clients individually, I shifted to start my own business. With Erin McCabe Wellness, I now work for myself full-time in a private studio in Lebanon, NH or virtually on Zoom. I work with individuals in private and group settings, focusing on each person as a whole being with their own unique story, comprised of many layers.

Through entrepreneurship I gained experience in the medical cannabis setting. This world and all it involves piqued my interest in research again and allowed me to work in a different model and with a whole new set of patients. If you are curious about learning more about cannabis, especially CBD and CBG, let me know!

Each chapter of my story has been a stepping stone, creating a clear path to what’s next. Discovering new areas of interest and communities of clients to support lead me to working with women, those who are perinatal or are primary caregivers of children. Pregnancy, birth and parenting are the hardest athletic endeavors any of us will undergo and I am passionate about serving this population.

Through all of these chapters, two themes are ever present: I love working with and supporting all bodies and breathing is at the absolute foundation of all the work I do.

What I

Believe In

I can stand on a lot of soap boxes. A few of them are: the need to improve perinatal support, the recognition that every human body is amazing and the fact that knowledge is key for empowerment.

My two cents…

I believe that health and wellness is an active endeavor available and accessible to everyone. I believe it takes consistency, intention and curiosity, with each individual’s journey to connection to the Self being paramount. I also believe “what” you do on this endeavor is far less important  than the “when” “how” or “why.” In other words, you can run or walk or hike or bike for cardio, but your mindset, awareness, intention, and drive is what makes the impact. Moreover, physical wellness is only one piece of the pie, and while it can be a great place to start your wellness journey it often isn’t the end of the path.

We are multilayered beings that each need a slightly different recipe for wellness or embodied wholeness. Finding practices that resonate, feel safe and encourage connection to the Self increases embodiment. Embodiment can lead to empowerment and increased self-awareness, which then increases agency and understanding of our individual and collective needs. You then become an active participant in your healthcare and wellness journey with the most important information for YOU. The more you connect to yourself and your humanity, the more you’ll be able to connect to all beings and your environment.

Wellness is something that is inherently human regardless of your skin color, sexual orientation, gender identity, financial standing or mental and physical capabilities. I welcome the opportunity to work with all bodies of all abilities and if I don’t think I am the best equipped to work with you, I will help to refer you to someone else.

I am an active member of Building Allyship and I have taken the Anti-Racist Small Business Pledge.

What I Do

Embodiment practices can look different for each individual and should cater to what feels best for you, setting you on your path to better support and wellness.

what does working with me look like?…

Each 1:1 session, class or workshop is different. However, the foundation of my work always involves assessments, focus on breathing, core and alignment to connect inward, collaboration between the person or people in the room, explanation about the area we are working on or the reason for what we’re doing, and reassessments with a focus on the process not the final outcome. Progress matters more than perfection or achievement.

My mission as a healthcare and service professional is to share the power and benefits of self-care healthcare through embodiment practices (breathing, rolling/self myofascial release, yoga therapy, yoga nidra/non-sleep deep rest, Ayurveda, and movement/mobility).

My style of teaching is intentional and focuses on alignment while inviting you to listen to your mind, body and breath. Curiosity, non-judgement and self-discovery are words you will hear me use in just about every class or private session. I hope that you always leave class or your session feeling as though you have learned something new and created some space.

Who I

Work With

Clients and students are often those experiencing pain, injury, who are perinatal, seeking more body awareness and mindfulness, or simply those curious about a different approach to exercise and movement.

All bodies welcome…

Those who I work with and have worked with include:

  • anyone who has finished PT, but doesn’t yet feel ready to return to their “normal” exercise/movement routines - especially those who have had a joint replacement or are ready for one

  • anyone with chronic or persistent pain that hasn’t been relieved from “traditional” options

  • anyone who is curious about breathing and how to incorporate breath exercises into their exercise/movement practice

  • pregnant and postpartum people who have pain or need guidance on what exercise/movements are safe to do

  • those with MS and other neurodegenerative diseases who are looking to stay active

  • those who are just looking for a different approach to exercise/movement
